A group of traveling teens stumbles upon the small village of Ellensford, a town that seems to be stuck in the 1800’s. Nobody gets sick or ages, and their crops thrive. The townsfolk have a pact with the ogre who lives in the woods, who requires an annual human sacrifice.

Attempting to create a movie that is equally terrifying and suspenseful is no easy task; and creating a laughable mockery is sometimes a nice consolation prize. Unfortunately for the creators of this film, Ogre is none of those things. It’s hard to laugh at this movie, without feeling bad about it.

The monster in this film is no more realistic than it’s ogre counterpart, I’m talking, of course, about Shrek. When creating a horror movie, with the monster as the title character, one would think that more care would go into the creation of said character. This is not true for Ogre. The CGI ruins most of this movie, and the ogre would be better off if it were played by a man in a suit, or even a clay-mation character. At least then, we could laugh. As for the other visual effects, they are of such an amateur caliber, even a first time editor would think they look awful.

Worse than the effects is the plotline. A movie cannot be even somewhat decent unless is has a somewhat decent story at it’s core. Ogre lacks that.

This movie does have entertainment value. The acting is not terrible, as per usual for B-movies. The gore, for those who like it, is semi-realistic. Those who are fans of awful movies will enjoy it.
